Asthma attacks are characterized by a periodic inflammation of the airways that conduct to the lungs.

Usually these attacks are manifested with shortness of breath, coughing and chest pain. When an asthma trigger gets inhaled the airways( known as Bronchioles) reacts by enlarging: this causes the normal air stream to the lungs to be restricted.
